Uh, one of the things that we did early on, I tried. I was, um, I always grew up around the carpet industry.

[00:52] My Dad was in, was a manager and eventually owned a business that was related in the same field, was always connected with the local community. But I always want to try to get out there, do something different than him. I always wanted to try to find some other avenue that I could do that I could expand into carpet cleaning Tulsa. And I’m one of the early things that I did that I think all little kids did at some point. I’m all sorry young boys did at some point, um, was that I started a lawn care company and I believe that it was just, just strictly claimed as an easy time, which should call lawn care company. And so I went to Kinko’s back at the time when Kinko’s was a big thing or you print up your flyers and so I got my fliers that have my pricing on it and then I’d print them up and I print them all up on green, kind of a bright green fluorescent type of coloring with black lettering on them and had a little little clip art type of a lawn mower that was just anybody in small.

[01:48] Because back then the computer’s graphics was not that high end. There wasn’t a whole lot of stuff that you could just do on a personal basis. Um, it was just a small little computer that we’re using at the time. And um, the uh, went and got all those flyers printed up and then I went over to distribute the flyers in my neighborhood that was next to my house. We grew up on an acre, but right next to our house, uh, there was a big neighborhood that had lots of houses. They’re all smaller houses, so they had a yard that were fairly easy to mow. And so what I did as I went through and I took enrolled the flyers and went to every single door and kind of just, you did the little Tuck, the flyer between the door handle and the in the walls.

[02:24] You’re gonna just rolled it and they kind of shoved it in there so that when someone came home it would be just be there. And I got through and then walked up to a house, put down the Flyer, walk to the next house, done a fly. And I realized fairly quickly that for me to cover all the houses in the neighborhood was going to take a tremendous amount of time. And I wasn’t gonna make any money and I didn’t have anybody there carpet cleaning Tulsa. Um, and I’d probably get to the end of the day and it’d be, you know, I’d only canvas maybe five, 10, 15 percent of the neighborhood. There was, must have been hundreds of houses in this neighborhood. And so I quickly realized, okay, I need to delegate, I don’t want to, I will never be able to cover all of this neighborhood and get everybody to start calling me to get carpet clean if I don’t get around, at least get all of these, um, these flyers hung up on all of these doors.

[03:05] And so what I did is I found a couple of kids that were just playing in the neighborhood. They’re riding their bikes around. I said, here, here’s the deal, um, how would you like to make some money? And they said, oh yeah, it’s a Saturday. Nobody was doing anything. And so I gave them both a certain amount of money. I said, here’s the number of flyers that you need. I will, I need you to go out there and place those flyers on these doors. And I will give you a $5 for, for each stack of flyers that you’re able to put up during that particular time. And so the uh, I would then run down, I was, I went and got my own bike so I could go down the aisle zooming as a general rule. You always want to trust but verify. And these are kids I didn’t even know, but I was just trying to get them to help me pass these flyers out.

[03:44] And so carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998. We’re going back in time to previous to this starting complete carpet back when we had a lawn care company, literally called Lawn Care Company. And uh, so we went through all of the neighborhood, have passed on all the fliers and I got my first real dose of reality. I figured every person I knocked on the door, they’d want me to clean to mow their yard. And then the next day that’s really the guy that’s gonna want me to mow their yard. And then when I got 10 to 15 doors down, I stopped knocking on the door. I just put the. Just put the flier on the door because I realized that most everybody didn’t write then want me to clean their yard and I wasn’t quite prepared for the perpetual. Oh, you’re so sweet. So Nice. But no. Oh, you’re so sweet.

[04:23] So Nice. But no, I had gotten a self propelled Toro Lawn mower. It just was really excited, but what I could do and what I was going to be help people with. I even had a bagger and a weed eater and at the time nobody really wanted me. So I passed on every single flyer and went through every single house and nobody said they wanted to use me. My Dad told a couple of his friends and one of them I think probably out of pity. He said, Oh yes, you can come over and clean my. You can come over. Sorry. I mow my yard. So I went over there and made my $20 in the hot sun during the summer. Mowed his yard, got it. Finished up. He gave me some water because I was just, you know, was just one of those really hot summers in Oklahoma.

[05:00] And, you know, it must have been close to 100 degrees that day and I just thought, oh, well this is just awful. I’m never going to get anywhere. I’ve never got any traction. And as I’m just about to finish and I’m pushing my lawn mower back home, uh, somebody else saw me and said, hey, are you the kids putting the green flyers everywhere? I said, well, yeah. And he’s like, Oh man, I saw what you did do his yard over there. That looked really good. So once you come into mine. And that helped to establish in me the importance of word of mouth importances of doing a good job to connect with customers. Um, is, is more important than just putting a flyer up everywhere. Good. Nobody knows who that person is and what they can do. And so, um, we are talking about, uh, what we did before complete carpet, started carpet cleaning Tulsa in 1998.

[05:40] We all, I also had started a company called Lawn Care Company. I was very young. I was probably, I don’t know, 10 to 12, somewhere there. And so I finally got up enough regular customers and I was doing it on a regular basis. Every weekend I’d go out and mow the yards and, and it made a decent amount of money. But by the end of that summer, I finally realized one thing, one thing really sat down and sat with me. I did not enjoy being outside in the heat and sweating all day long and getting covered in grass and itching and scratching all the time.carpet cleaning Tulsa And so that summer was my one brief exposure into the business of the lawn care industry. And I quickly realized, um, I want to do something that is not outside where I’m standing in the heat and sweating and having to just drink copious amounts of water, trying to keep from getting dehydrated every single day all day long.

[06:29] And so I sold my lawnmower and I decided I would try something different the next year. And, uh, we will continue this series as we see what, what it is that we tried the next year to do a, we are complete carpet, carpet cleaning Tulsa and surrounding community since 1998.
