We’re going to continue in this episode, what we started in the previous episode about, um, what it took to start the business. And I started off with a recounting some of my father’s good advice to me before I started a business before I got into business on my own, about how you really can’t get out and start any business because you’re looking to just quickly make money. carpet cleaning Tulsa
[00:55] So the only way you could ever make something that’s going to last is that you’ve got to become really good at what it is that you do. And if you aren’t good at it, um, you then are going to hate it. Um, I, I personally think I’ve seen so many carpet cleaning companies and the Tulsa area, we’ve got almost $100 plus carpet cleaners and when I first started it and they’re still over 100 plus carpet cleaners today and there’s very few of those that are still the same companies that there was 20 years ago when I started. Now there’s been lots that have started and there’s lots of in ended up typically have about 10 to 15 different companies startup and then 10 to 15 different companies quit every single year. And I think the main reason for this is people that get in there and have not mastered their craft first at what they’re going to do.
[01:34] And they try to just get out there and put something out. And I personally think the most stressful thing and all businesses doing work that you know is not good. And then getting the phone call later when somebody calls to let you know that the work that you did is not very good. Um, this can lead to, carpet cleaning Tulsa I think, personal ruin and also financial and business ruin if you’re not getting out there and making sure that you nail what it is that you’re going to do first. I’m carpet cleaning. Tulsa’s is in our fiber and one of the things that I think really drives that was first making sure that we knew what we were going to do before we got out there and, and do it. And there’s definitely been learning points along the way. But they’ve, um, I’ve had times where I’ve been called out to clean up after a pony who was in the living room.
[02:15] And I definitely got out there and looked around and thought, okay, this is the first time that I’ve had to clean up after a pony. And I didn’t find anything and he researched. I could do or talk to anybody that had ever done that either. So I had to get out the next day, just try it. And so it became more of an experiment as I tried to figure out all the proper ways and what’s the right chemicals are going to help to get this out. We did get that carpet clean. I’ve had other times where I’ve had to get very creative and unique and trying to make sure that I’m a patch or repair can be done in a situation that all the other experts said that just couldn’t be done. And try to find some solution for a customer are times where, you know, I’ve expanded a lot of our offerings because I’ve had the need from customers is they asked us what if we could help them get something accomplished because they’ve tried every other avenue and no one else was willing to put the time of the research and figure out what needed to be done or how to fix that.
[03:01] So that scenario and there is a huge report. I’ve tried to teach my own children and, and, and I wish that we could have a class in school that would teach children and show them the value, the, um, the importance of accomplishment, of, of working against something, failing, working against it, again, failing a second time and then working against it even more until you hit the point of that Eureka moment where you finally break through and you see it. And those are the moments that you’re going to remember for the rest of your life. I think after a carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998, I’ve had so many times where I’ve seen, um, the, the highlight highlight moments of, of my working career and also as a father or as a thing all come from the moments where we did something big together and we went through and know, physically built the, um, the playground thing for the kids.
[03:51] And we remember some of the time that we played on it. Remember some of the things that we did. But really building the whole thing and putting all the hard work and effort in is the one that drilled into a memory. What we’re going to go back and we’ll talk about that all the time or the time that we, um, we went out and we accomplished it. We did something that was big or unique or exciting. Uh, we on a small scale. So many people just put their hopes, their tagged their ideas and concepts onto small things like a movie or a, a mistake. I mean, you know, in, in one week, you may mention to a couple of friends how great a steak tastes, but go one year from now, five years ago, 10 years from now, you can’t remember what that experience was like. carpet cleaning Tulsa
[04:29] You won’t even remember where you ate the steak and what day of the week it was. But you have that time where you helped out the church or you went to a habitat humanity house and spent the whole weekend feeding a, passing out soup or feeding the hungry or, or building a house, putting it in some hard work, helping your church put something together. And then 10 years later, you still remember that weekend as you put in and you know that together. The 10 to 15 of you, you know, rebuilt the fence for the for that, for that customer, for those people to help their day out or that time that you went through and found you were the only person in town who was able to figure out some way to get the carpets cleaned after something just tremendous. It happened that no one else knew exactly what to do for those of the memories that really stick with you and those are the things that go through and I think form you into becoming an even better person than you already are by just getting out there and saying, you know what?
[05:16] There is experience and there is the time where you get out there and you just put your elbow. You put your shoulders down and you say, I’m going to keep going until I make this situation the best that it can be.
