Do they were going to talk about the effects that the weather can have on your carpet, uh, in the Oklahoma area specifically of Tulsa region. Uh, one thing that two people will see as an effect of the weather on their carpet is that we have high humidity, low humidity swings throughout the year, and one of these, um, uh, cycles as the cycles go throughout the year. Typically around five to seven years mark on most carpets, the carpet will start to have broken in or relaxed. Um, this is normal for most carpet. All carpet should relax or break in. Um, sort of like having a new pair of leather shoes, brand new pair of leather shoes gets nice and tight when you first get them.

But as you wear them for the first six months to a year, they’ll start to relax to where they kind of mold, conform to the shape of your foot. But they don’t keep relaxing until they become large giant clown shoes. carpet cleaning Tulsa They just relax up to a certain point and carpet is the same way. It typically, we’re relaxed about an inch or so. I’m in a place that when you install carpet, you want to put about an inch of stretch on the carpet so that it has an extra inch of tension. It’s tight like a rubber band, so that as that carpet starts to relax, it has the give and the carpet will absorb the extra slack as it starts to get broken in or where, where in, uh, in Oklahoma you’ll have a little bit more of a break in period than other states, uh, because of the high humidity, low humidities.

So that kind of stiffened up and then relaxes again and then stiffens up in the relaxes again. And so we do the majority of the research that we do are typically in the five to seven year mark on age of the carpet because at that point it’s and stiff in a relaxed and stiffen until it becomes more of an area rug in the room. One of the things that we have noticed frequently is that when there is higher humidity, um, in the air that the carpets, whatever is in the carpet will start to smell. Remember that all flooring surfaces are, um, all flooring surfaces are just a, uh, uh, is just a waste basket. Whether you’ve got a tile hardwood or whether you’ve got linoleum, whether you’ve got pergo or laminate, whatever the type of flooring is, carpet, carpet, squares, indoor outdoor carpet, stained concrete, they’re all going to be a, none of them emanate dirt.

None of the different flooring surfaces create the dirt in the home. They’re just brought into the home from some other source. Maybe your shoes, maybe it comes in on the dog, maybe it comes in to a door opening and wind blowing in or their dust coming in. Somebody bringing food into an area of somebody playing with Plato are doing arts and crafts. Something is happening inside that area of the home and there’s excess dirt and debris falls off of whatever happens and lands on the floor in surface. So you’ve got wood floors, uh, you’re going to feel it right away. If you’ve got tile, if you’ve got any hard surface, you typically can see or feel it right away to where you have to mop and sweep on a much more regular basis. You have someone with dusty dirty shoes walk across the room and you don’t have to instantly sweep it up because it now feels gritty and sandy all the way across because it kind of falls down in between the fibers of the carpet. So you can go quite a bit longer on carpet without noticing. The downside is that you have to go a lot longer. Um, people will go a lot longer without noticing how, um, dirty their carpets have become because it does hide dirt. Well. It’s a deeper, bigger wastebasket than the other flooring surfaces are. And because of this, you’ll end up with stuff that gets down in the carpet. If you spill some, say milk on a tile floor, well it’s just milk on a tile floor and you just wipe it off and you can just visually instantly see there’s still milk on the tile floor, so you wipe it off again, he’s still mark milk on the carpet and it can kind of sit there and have milk covered carpet that you didn’t completely absorb off or rinse off.

And so there’s still a little bit of milk sitting there in the carpet and maybe dry. But when the humidity gets high enough, it’s going to then act like a petri dish and add back to it. carpet cleaning Tulsa The moisture needed for it to kind of grow, grow a little bit and smell a little bit. Um, the one, you’ll notice this, the most honest pet urine spots, a place where they pet has peed in the carpet and it’s dried out completely and as long as the humidity is very low, you won’t smell anything from those spots. But as the humidity raises, you’re going to start noticing that it’s kind of really smells a little funky or starts getting a lot more strong smell coming from the area starts to actually smell like urine in an area when it gets real humid outside. If it gets to 60 to 80% humidity, now you’re adding a lot of moisture to something that is going to smell.

Uh, we’ve run into this a lot of times when somebody will come in to try to clean the carpets and all of a sudden it really smells funky after they’ve finished cleaning in the really bad pet urine in an an area as the carpets drying, it could essentially smell like that. Um, that’s also one of the reasons why customers will call us sometimes and ask us to clean the carpets because the carpets are currently wet and we will not be able to do that for them because if your carpets are currently wet, if we go to clean them, we will be adding more moisture to something that’s already wet, causing more problems. In that case, the carpets need to be, um, blown, dry, removed the padding or dry it dried in place and get dry before you can clean out what’s left there.
