This is episode three 74. I want to talk to you today about what to do to kind of help with water in your home. Maybe water damage or reputations. Uh, our customers, every now and then we’ll call and they’ve got some moisture in their carpet. Maybe A, they’ve spilled water or maybe they’ve actually had a toilet back up or maybe they’ve had, um, oh, a place where say Rainwater’s come in or kids playing in the bath and the water got out. You know, they overfilled the bathtub. Um, in all these different situations, if you’ve got clear water, it’s pretty easy to take care of. Have you got a big situation then you probably want to deal with your homeowners insurance cause it gets pretty expensive per room to have a restoration company come out because they have to, they do stuff to the walls, they do stuff in the concrete, the floor, the baseboards, moving in furniture. There’s so much that they have that’s involved. They, that they’re supposed to do that you can get into $1,500 per room. I’m trying to get water damage, restoration stuff taken care of, but for your small little incidental stuff, well a lot of times doctor, our customers about the number one thing that you need to worry about so many times. Mold seems to be the top of everyone’s mind. And mold can be a problem over time. But your first thing is mold cannot be somewhere, cannot grow, cannot um, uh, continue to infect your area or do, uh, cause problems if it has no moisture source.

Uh, a dry area doesn’t have any mold growing. But if you’ve got a take a shower and you leave your towel on the floor, it will sit there damp and wet and potentially overnight start smelling musty and over a day it could potentially get very boldly just because you’ve given it enough time and left it wet enough that eventually it holds. Carpet Cleaning Tulsa Um, so you have to remember this way you’re dealing with stuff that if you can get in that first 40, 24 to 48 hours, get it dried back out. You don’t really have to worry about mold and mold written recommendation almost at all because you haven’t let it set and stay that way for long enough to really cause a large bloom or mold to happen. Uh, now there are exceptions to this, but for the most part, you want to try to make sure that you’re right on top of it.

Um, now if you do have some mold or starting to mold and mildew in an area, you can always help to, uh, renovate that with a mill decide or for example of Odo ban, they sell at home depot can work. It’s got a mixture on the backside from mold and mildew control helps to kill off the a the plant and once you get it dry then the plant can no longer grow anymore. So remembering that mold is just a plant, it’s got spores is spores can bloom or grow the germinate with enough moisture in an area sort of you, you know, leave, uh, any type of a moisture area and eventually will come back as long as you use the right chemical, you can break back or kill back the bold plants so that it does not continue to grow. Carpet Cleaning Tulsa Now the second part that you want to worry about with your carpet and um, specific carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 the one of the specific things you want to look out for your carpet is the fact that when you have a carpet that has been wet long enough, eventually it starts to soften up the glue and the backing.

Now a carpet can get wet without really much problems. I would clean the carpets. I’ve got some customers we cleaned once a month for five to 10 years and the carpets are still in good shape, but if carpet stays wet for an extended period of time, say 24 hours, 48 hours a week, it will start to soften up the glue in the backing. And this can lead to de lamination sounds like a very big word, but the simplest explanation to it is that the backing and the fibers separate. And once those two separate, you end up getting buckles in place or there shouldn’t be buckles or fibers start to fall out. And so the carpet becomes damaged there. You can’t stretch it the same. You would because if you put hard stretching on the carpet could tear or rip apart because it’s not holding together the carpet.

Uh, if you break down carpet, you’ve got a traditional, you have three layers, you’ve got your, uh, the netting, the backing part of the meeting, which is what all the fibers go through. You’ve got the fibers that go through that netting. And then on the back of that you’ve got, uh, you’ve slather all of those fires that go through his leather mall with glue and you, uh, put a, um, uh, backing over top of that to kind of sandwich between the top part and the back part and you vote on the fibers in between them and glue that together. And now you’ve got a solid hard piece of carpet. What will happen is that the backing on the netty backing on the backside, um, separates from the glue on the back of the fibers. Now there’s not something holding given at that structural integrity. And so the two can now separate and fibers can be pulled through the carpet fairly easily from that point forward.

You don’t want this to happen too often, but if it sets wet long enough, then that glue starts to kind of break down. Um, and it starts to fall apart. Also, you don’t want to leave moisture and carbon for too long because carpet has a lot of stuff in it. Um, sometimes organic dirt, different things like that, and it will mold the building pretty quickly or easily because there’s already something there to kind of feed it. It’s already got a source of things. Like if I left water in a glass, it’s pretty much just going to be water in a glass. Carpet Cleaning Tulsa If I left water a little bit of water on my plate of Spaghetti, then it’s going to mold and mildew pretty quickly. Or if I left my bread wet, it’s going to mold them. They’ll do very quickly because now it has a source.

Give us a call today at (918) 494-7093. Um, uh, know that a lot of times mold gets a bad rap and it is dangerous to be living in a house that’s got active mold growth. But typically I tell people the easiest way to tell if there is an act of water problem in your house is that you can smell it. If you walk into a an area and it smells normal, smells fresh or dry, you can typically tell that right away. Now, if you go to a dryer where it’s venting out the back, we almost instantly can tell, oh, that’s a dryer vent and it’s making some smell. Or that’s a bathroom that someone just took over a long hot shower in, and you immediately can smell the moisture sitting in the air. And so if you walk into your house and you notice that it seems overly clammy over the humid, a lot of times that means there’s moisture somewhere in your house that shouldn’t be there.
