[00:01] This is episode 255. We are complete carpet. We’re going to talk about the importance of keeping carpets flat and tight. Perfect. Complete carpet. But today we’re going to be talking about carpet stretching Tulsa. Uh, what’s important about keeping your carpets tight flat is that it will extend the life you were carpet of. The main reasons for stretching carpet and keeping it flat is that the more carpet moves, the faster it breaks down.
[01:02] Um, you can think of this as far as a coat hanger. If you take a metal coat hanger and you hanging in the closet, it can hold your shirt or jacket hanging there for probably 20 years, 30 years. It lasts a nice good long time, but if you take that coat hanger and you unwinded and then men at one direction and the men that back the other direction and then bend them back the other direction and you just keep bending it back and forth. Eventually that coat hanger will break because it is a moving beyond its limitations and stretching and bending the metal to the point that it is softened up or cracks or breaks. Whereas if you a tip the same, a coat hanger and didn’t move it and let it be straight stiff than it would be able to hang, hang a coat or hold your jacket for a very long time as it keeps it all harden in place and carpet is the same way.

And if you want to see the longest lasting carpet with the highest amount of abuse and work on it, take a look at all of your commercial carpets in your commercial aspects. The, uh, they always take the carpet and they blew it straight to the floor. And this does two things. One, it keeps the carpet from moving at all, it is glued to the floor so it stays in place and two, it holds the carpet in place. Um, and uh, so it does not need to hold a perpetual stretch because it has something else that it keeping it taut and tight and that is the glue that is on the floor and it is backed up my concrete, which doesn’t have any movement on it, say so. There’s no pad to let each time you step on it, it doesn’t have to flex and give a in a mall setting or in a retail retail store or in a movie theater.
[02:45] All these different areas, they’ll actually glue the carpets straight down to the floor so that one, that the carpets don’t move around and to the carpet don’t move up and down. Carpet stretching Tulsa And that allows the carpets to last a good long time because they removed all of the friction of an all of the bedding that you would have with a wire that was moving up and down. It keeps that wire more like a coat hanger where it’s set in one position and it just stays there and that way thousands of people could walk across it on a regular basis without the carpets completely falling apart in your own home. The carpets typically last five to 10 to 20 years at the most and they break down with only three to four or five people in the house walking on it on a minimal basis because it has a large pattern underneath that and it stretched into place to have this kind of trampoline effect.

And uh, we see an almost all of these different situations. People that have taken carpet and it is a three main categories of reasons why they have to get the carpet stretched and keep it flat. The main reason to keep it flat is that you need to extend the life of the carpet. The tighter it is, the more straight it is, a more flat it is. The longer it will last because it won’t bend up and down, and so that will help to increase the life of the carpet too. If you get regal’s right away after it’s been installed, it just was not installed properly. The normal installation method, you want to have about a half an inch to an inch of stretch beyond the carpet being tight, so you put it in place.
[04:21] You stretch it kind of like a rubber band so that as the carpet relaxes, all carpet’s going to relax a little bit, give maybe a half an inch to an inch per every 10 feet. Carpet stretching Tulsa Say we typically get about a half an inch per 10 feet, so over, you know, five to 10 years is going to relax just a little bit and you want to have enough tension on there that eventually the carpet will just absorb that extra carpet. Now if it, they put it into loosely as you walk across it and it does grow a half an inch. Now you’re going to get big raves and ripples right away. Uh, the second part that can happen is that over say a three to five years, the carpets start to relax because of regular wear and tear or because you’re just more aggressive, uh, you don’t clean your carpets on a regular basis or you don’t back him or you have lots of pets.
[05:07] You have lots of kids. Um, maybe you host a lot of parties with lots of people that walk in and around on it. And so that can cause it to kind of break down over time. And so, um, in those cases you want to, anytime you see wrinkles, get it stretched because two, one is a trip hazard, but two, you also want to extend the life of the carpet by not having it move. Every time it’s loose, it’s going to bend and move and flex every step you put on it, make it tight again. And it will be able to absorb all that movement and hold it in the tension so that it doesn’t bend to break as quickly. And then the third part that we run into is that if somebody has some work done, they want to run a cable underneath the carpet or they have a small water damage or water leak, someone pulls up an area of the carpet, um, anytime the carpet is pulled up, it releases the tension on the carpet and then it will wrinkle pretty quickly after that because there’s nothing pulling it tight, sort of like, uh, you’re your fitted mattress, a sheet if you just laid a regular sheet over your mattress that it’s, it would just shift and move all around.
[06:05] But he had that fitted mattress sheet is always a bit of tension on it. And so that mattress sheets stays tight most of the time as they flat most of the time because you’ve got that rubber band effect going around the bottom of the pit of mattress, pulling it tight at all times.
