Continuing our series on the history of Complete Carpet and where that has taken us over the last 20 years. Carpet cleaning Tulsa and surrounding communities since 1998. We made a name change early on and moved from Carpet Care Installation to Complete Carpet Care. We wanted to be able to provide a complete service, not just be able to repair and maintenance your carpet, but also the clean it and to repair it. Be that because of water damage, pet damage, or that damage could be just a standard damage. People that have kids who have just come in and left their mark in areas that they traversed across, from the sticky fingerprints to spilled milk, spilled coffee, spilled Dr. Pepper or Coke. Maybe a pet accident, something that has come in to throw off the nice clean balance of your carpet. We set out to find the best ways of treating, cleaning, and repairing those carpets.

So we are available at any time that they needed us. Instead of only being about to provide a one time service of new carpet. I wanted to make customers that we would build a relationship with. We would be able to service through the life of their carpet for a 5, 10, 15, even 20 year period as they went on to maintain the health of their carpet. Like commercial carpet is actually glued directly to the floor. They have thousands if not tens of thousands of people walking across those carpets all the time and last for years with high traffic. The difference between a carpet lasting for a long time and really just breaking down right away is the maintenance with which you stay on top of that carpet’s care. We’re talking about the history of Complete Carpet and some of the different strategies that we used to build up Complete Carpet and the opportunities that we had. One thing that I learned when I was young, that I didn’t understand really as much until I got older, that my dad used to always tell me. He said that work is always work, no one really ever specifically enjoys what they’re doing because otherwise it wouldn’t be call work, you would call it fun. We few rare people actually do what they think is fun as their work. But the majority of people dislike their work because they do not have a solution to all the potential hazards that are going to happen to them or they are just not skilled and not up to snuff on what that particular job entails. That stress of not knowing what to do is why you’ll hate that job. Or the short term high amount of stress that comes from trying to learn what to do and then every new thing that comes up is always a new event. Or every new task is a learning curve in itself. So you’re always perpetually almost in a fight or flight mode. My dad would always tell me, He said the way to really love your job is to do it so well, learn it so well that you could do it in your sleep. When you’ve been working long enough that it no longers feels like work, it just becomes second nature.
It’s just something that you do throughout your day just like driving. You drive from one place to the other. You get there safe and sound and you think back and don’t remember anything. I didn’t have to struggle the entire way looking at every single street sign really struggling with driving. It was enjoyable because I knew the route. I know how to drive it. I was able to carry on a conversation during the whole thing and got there safe and sound without any stress because I had become proficient at driving. Just like with driving, if you become good at work you do it will become a joy to do because it has no stress connected to it.
