Continuing the topic from episode 22 with self-help tips on how to spot clean carpet yourself. Carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 we are Complete Carpet. We want you to try to get those touch up spots taken care of whether you’re using a Rug Doctor or Bissell. Or you’ve decided to take a more, I personally think, powerful route of just buying a shop-Vac, like a 5-10 gallon $80 shop-Vac. Make sure you put a wet filter in it. Don’t use the regular dry filters, once you suck water up with the dry filter they will turn into mush. Make sure you get a good wet filter that you can put in there, and then just use a spray bottle with as hot of tap water is you can get and a chemical, whatever chemical you want to use, to break the spot down. Talking about how to get your carpets clean, we are covering the process that you’re going to want to follow. The overall outlining guide of what you need to do to get a fresh spot in your carpet clean. First thing you need to do is remove as much of the fresh spill, spot or debris as you can. If it’s a fresh spill grab the shop-Vac or grab your little Bissell or Hoover carpet cleaner. Just try to remove as much moisture out of the carpet as you can. If neither one of those things are available to grab, get a towel instead and lay over the spot. Now stand on it with your body weight, take the towel turn it over to a dry section stand on it again with your body weight. Just keep doing that so you absorb out of the area as much as you can first. The worst thing I know most people do is to start dumping water or some type of liquid on top of it before they have removed whatever they can first. The problem is if they don’t remove what they can from the spot first then when you just start adding more liquid you dilute it and then it starts to spread and it gets to be a bigger spot than you originally started off. So the first thing you do it use a shop-Vac, you use some type of suction device or a towel to absorb it up. Or even a paper plate to get as much off the carpet as possible. These are maintenance type tips.
The other thing you want to do is, once you’ve removed as much of the contaminate as you can, as much of whatever the spot was. Now take some type of product that will work to break that down, if it’s buttery get some grease cutter some degreaser. If it’s something from a pet then use a pet product. Coffee, makeup, etc use a product for each of those types. We want to get a little bit of something to be able to cut grease and oils whatever this type of product is use a little bit of something. We want to kind of break it down to get what we can’t just suck out into solution. The idea is to use the least amount possible because the more product we use the more we will have to rinse out. Think about washing your hair. If you use too little shampoo your hair doesn’t get clean. But you use too much and it will take forever to rinse out. Next take some nice hot straight clear water sprayed on there, and then immediately suck it back up with a shop-Vac or your carpet cleaner. So as you’re addressing these spots, these fresh spills that you’re doing maintenance on between the big carpet cleaning. We wanted to keep the carpets looking good until the next big carpet cleaning is needed. You just got all the carpets looking great. Then you got a small spot on your nice clean carpets. You’re needing to maintenance it, you just get on there jumping on top of it and get it treated with a little bit of a product that works for whatever it is. This comes after you tried to remove as much of whatever was still there first. So at this point you’ve broken down the spot by using a carpet chemical to try to soften up and break up the carpet spot. It is helping the carpets by getting the spot back into solution. Once you’ve got that broken down now, it’s started to break up into solution X. Now you need a rinse it out. I do not personally use any chemical in the water itself that you’re rinsing with. I like you to use just your hot water, the hotter the water the better. It’s just like rinsing your dishes, if you have hot water to rinse your dishes everything just dissolves and comes off cleaner and faster. Try to use cold water to rinse it. It will take two to three times as long as a hot water rinse would. Hot water helps to dissolve things, get them in water solution again, so they can then be sucked back out with your shop-Vac or your carpet cleaner. So I suggest everyone, whatever carpet cleaning chemical they want to use, put it in a separate spray bottle from your rinse water. Then use just clear hot water in your carpet cleaner. Just be as hot of tap water you can get, nice fresh clean hot water that way when you leave the spot you cleaned, there’s no chemical still sitting in the carpet.
If you clean with chemicals in the water then it will attract new dirt. This is probably one of the biggest reasons that so many people clean a spot, and it seems like it comes back over time or a seems like it continues to get bigger. So once you’ve broken up the spot gotten it into solution. Now you use some hot water to kind of give something to rinse it away with. Next you suck it out, or you use the carpet cleaner to rinse and suck the water out at the same time or a shop-vac to suck it up while you spray it. Just make sure there’s no chemical in the carpet that you use in the water that you’re rinsing with. So many times people will come in to have a spot in the carpet. They will treat it with chemicals, rub it with a rag and it looks pretty good. Then the next day or week they come there, and it seems like the dirt came back to that area and it’s got a bit bigger. They try to clean it a second time and then the next week there is an even bigger circle because they’re just spreading the soap bigger and bigger. The soap is still in there because they are cleaning soap with soap. Remember to always end with a hot water rinse. Carpet cleaning Tulsa and the surrounding communities.
