Reach us online at www.CompleteCarpetTulsa.com One of the things that we do with carpet is stretching. That can help to extend the longevity of your carpet. Carpet when it’s installed, is installed by someone like a trampoline. All along the outside of all carpet runs a layer of tacstrip with pins that face away from the middle of the room. Now to install that carpet you go through and attach one wall to those pins. They tuck it into place, cut it, then you stretch away from that one wall to another opposing wall to create a tightness across the carpet. You typically put about an half inch to a full inch of stretch, of tightness or tension against that carpet. The reason that you are doing this is that all carpet will slowly grow over time. Now it doesn’t grow like a plant grows, it’s more that it relaxes. This is probably a better term, relaxes, just like a good pair of leather shoes relaxes as you wear them and each time that you walk in a pair of leather shoes it slowly starts to kind of relax or form to the shape of your foot. You have a padding under the carpet to give it a little bit of cushion or softness. The real purpose that you put one inch of stretch is that carpet typically will grow about one inch or relax one inch worth and the stretch you put on the carpet is like a rubber band in effect. It will absorb in when the carpet that has gotten bigger than the original installation, so it stays tight. Now if it goes beyond that inch then you end up with a wrinkle because that extra carpet needs to go somewhere. It hits the wall, or fills the tuck space and it has nowhere else to go. So it ends up buckling or peaking in the middle of the room or an area that’s walked on the most. The reason you want to get this stretched back out and flattened out is that every time the carpet moves it’s like taking a wire and bending it. You could take a wire and put it up on a power line, and it will last a very long time up there nice and tight and straight. But if you take a clothes hanger and bend it up and down, up and down, up and down, it doesn’t take very long before it will break. Carpet does the same thing each time it moves. And the more it moves, the quicker it breaks down. Where as the stiffer it is and the flatter it is, the longer it will take to break down. Or we have customers in Okmulgee or Bartlesville we service for an extra $50-60. The problem these customers have is sometimes these smaller communities, just don’t have anybody there who is a good option. You might be stuck with that one guy, and he may charge the same that we do, but he just doesn’t a do good service. Maybe he’s unreliable. He doesn’t show up on time. He doesn’t have good machinery. He doesn’t have a large truck mounted machine. He doesn’t come self-contained, all of the things that we do that. We try to make sure that when we get out somewhere we can do the job.
