Now one of the most simple things you can do to prepare is just to do a general pickup of the house. Go into each area and just grab whatever is on the floor and throw it up on the couch or bed. Clear the the floor of small toys or clothes or anything else that might be on the floor covering carpet that you would like to get cleaned. Next thing that helps is doing a light vacuuming. If you’ve vacuum within a few days, or the week we’re going to clean the carpet then that should be just fine. The goal is to get up large pieces of debris and clearing the major areas that you would like to get to cleaned. This is most helpful when someone has moved out of the house. It’s completely empty but now there is trash and debris under where all the furniture was sitting. In a situation like that then it is best to have the whole house trashed out first. Sometimes when you move all the furniture out of the house there’s a lot of small debris that you didn’t think of that was underneath the furniture or the chairs or the areas in the back of closets. Another thing that sometimes customers will do is that they know they move their furniture around a lot. So they’ve got a certain piece that they’ve used, a rug or a piece of furniture or something like that to hide a spill or spot. I think we’ve all done this at some point, there will be a big spot and instead of taking care of it, because we don’t have the time to clean it up all the way, we’ll just move something over it. So if that’s the case it is good to take that piece of furniture or rug and move it off the carpet so they will be able to see the spot that needs to be cleaned and make sure that we get that taken care of while we’re there. I have even had some customers go as far as taking all of the furniture and move it onto the tile out or into the garage so they could just get a wall to wall cleaning. Talking this episode about how to prepare to get your carpets cleaned. One thing that’s important is that we do a walk-through when we first get there. So we like to go through and see what we need to pretreat all of the carpets. We do want to get your input because you know better than anybody else of what are the trouble areas in your house and what is the main areas that are just really giving you a hard time. So we can make sure we give all of the areas in the house attention and also give special attention to the areas that are of concern to you the most. One thing we don’t recommend is putting the furniture back on to the wet carpet, always give it enough time to drive first before you put it back. We get the carpet hot and wet through a good steam cleaning process removing all of the dirt. There’s two things that can happen, first the weight of the furniture will come against a soft damp carpet that has been steamed, so it’s relaxed and it will stretch the carpet down in a little cup marks around where the feet are because the weight of the furniture pushing down against the carpet and creating dents in the carpet. The second part that you want to wait on moving stuff is because of wood and metal feet. Metal can rust and wood leave little orange furniture stains if you move furniture back onto the damp carpet. You can put a protector on each of the feet while it dries. But our recommendation is, if you want to clean under the furniture then move it into a hard surface area, clean the carpets and let them dry, then move the furniture back.
