This Episode we are covering our next Frequently Asked Question: How can I get wax out of my carpet? This is something that we run into on a fairly regular basis. Be it a Scentsy wall plug in, or one sitting on a table has fallen over or maybe it’s a candle that somebody to put on the table and it got knocked over or just drained straight down the side and it’s now it’s gotten into the carpet. Many of your waxy type products that have gotten into the carpet they can be removed but it takes a little bit of care and a little bit of patience to be able to get it out. The things that we’re going to need to remove a buildup of wax out of the carpet will be: A white terry-cloth, now you can use a paper towel but you’ll need to fold it over a couple of times. You want to give enough to absorb, as a single layer paper towel is typically not thick enough to hold a lot of wax and so you need to keep moving it around. Keep going through you’ll need to add your clothing iron. Carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 I would add a side note, the reason I don’t like using paper towels with the clothing irons because some of the wax can transfer to the iron and we don’t want to we want to use the iron as a heating source if we have to ruin our iron. We want to continue to use it for clothes at another time. Most irons, if they sit in a certain position for 30 seconds to a minute it will automatically turn off. I would suggest that all people buy a new iron if you have an iron that does not have this feature. Irons are not that expensive and if you get one with a minute cut off switch then if it ever falls on the carpet it will just automatically turn off over time. Because we have been carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 we’ve seen many many iron burns in carpet. Irons work good against the carpet because it’s not really a problem for it to touch the carpet. It won’t burn the carpet while sitting on the rag. Most carpets you can leave the iron straight on the carpet for a couple of minutes before it will start to affect the fiber because it doesn’t immediately burn. Just like your clothing all modern carpets are all natural or synthetic fibers and they can be ironed just like your clothing it just make it flatter looking if you wanted to. I’ve yet to run into the why you would iron your carpet flat but it’s possible. So it’s not going to burn the carpet if you have an iron with a cut off switch because it takes a pretty long time to burn carpet. Most carpets take around 10 to 15 minutes to burn a hole in the carpet and of course that becomes a fire hazard. We’re going to use the iron and different process going to try to remove the wax. Addressing wax that has gotten on the carpet. We have a rag and an iron. Now we need some water in a spray bottle. We spray the area around the wax. Next we lay the rag over the wax and set the iron to cotton and set it directly on the rag over the damp carpet and wax. This will increase the heat and moisture around the wax, since we sprayed the area around the wax and this is going to make it steam the water and heat up quickly helping to bring the wax into a melting stage quicker. Also the wax doesn’t spread around in the carpet because we put a dry cloth over top. Put the iron over top of it and wait about 30 seconds, steam coming off around it because the iron is now heating that water up, and that water is bringing up the temperature of the wax. We are trying to get it up to where that wax goes from hard into more of a liquid and can just absorb into the dry cloth. Pull the iron back check and you will notice that the white cloth will kind of get a little bit of a wet look to it as it absorbs the wax up and it starts to feel a bit stiffer once it starts absorbing the wax. Put the iron back over 30 seconds at a time. 30 seconds between the Heat of the iron and the carpet with the wax melting. You can add a little bit more water sprayed around the wax and then go back over and give it another steaming process to try to get to melt into the rag. It’s best not to use the steam from the iron itself because then you get the rag wet. You’re wanting to transfer the wax up and into the rag. What I run into every now and then is that there sometimes the hot wax has a strong color then when you remove all of the wax, and it’s now a soft fiber, you get in the fiber is now pink or orange or green or something along those lines. Some of the waxes have dyes or colors in them sometimes and it becomes coloured while the hot wax originally soaked into the carpet. Sometimes that color gets set into the carpet while it was a hot liquid and you can remove the wax but not the color it changed the carpet to. If you do want to try to get that spot fixed you can always call us out to do a patch. We can take that discolored spot and replace it with nice good piece of carpet, and put that discolored spot in the back of a closet. This can work for any spot that you get in your carpet where it’s not dirty, it’s not something that can be cleaned up it’s something where the carpet is just physically a new color now.
