Ep 49 Complete Carpet Podcast | Carpet Cleaning Tulsa
This Episode we will continue with more Frequently Asked Questions. How often should I clean my carpet? I get this question a lot carpet cleaning Tulsa surrounding communities since 1998. Check out our website at www.CompleteCarpetTulsa.com I have run into this and the answer has changed a little bit over the years as different types of carpet and different materials have been used in the construction. Long ago the answer was not that often because you wanted to try to minimize the amount of cleaning that you did because there was a lot of natural fibers in carpets. They had a lot of jute backings and so there was a potential that if you had a bad carpet cleaner who used poor equipment or if you used a Rug Doctor or something without powerful suction you would get it too wet. I’ve even see a machine that was not matched or balanced properly. Carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 we have see how this is an important part of picking the right machine and also using the machine in the right way. I could take our carpet cleaning machine which is accurately balanced at 450 pounds of pressure so that when the jets in the wand spray the water on the carpet the want can suck up almost every bit of water gets put down. Now if I turned that pressure all the way up to say 1000 or 1200 PSI, then it’s going to put down more water faster than it can suck it up. So you’re going to end up flooding or over-saturating the carpet. This is a problem that a lot of the Rug Doctor units have. They normally are meant to be used on a downstroke only and you typically are supposed to only put water on the downstroke and then go forward to suck it back up and then come back down for a dry stroke to extract the carpet again. But most people just pull the trigger and just keep putting water down to go back and forth. Eventually the whole area is completely saturated. Carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 I’ve seen a few times where I’ve come into an area and somebody had a small Rug Doctor that they had tried to clean out a spot with. They were going over and over trying to break up the dirt and went over it so many times that the padding below the carpet was completely soaked. So it’s extremely important we make sure that every job we do we always have the proper amount of suction to the amount of water. Also that we are using the proper technique with the system that were using to be able to remove all of that moisture back out of the carpet. Going back talking about old carpets again, it used to be that if you over wet the carpet and let it stay wet for a long time it would actually shrink. Just like a cotton t-shirt if you over wet it and use the wrong process or got it too hot. So old natural fiber carpets needed a more conservative cleaning schedule. With the change in modern carpets to being completely synthetic in all of their building construction so they are not sensitive to water that way anymore. But we still use the same process to make sure that we are just as careful with those carpet because we want the carpet to last a long time for you. If we come out and take care of your carpet and you have to replace it right away you’re going to be mad at us and we want you to be able to keep that carpet in your home for a long time. That way we we can continue to keep servicing it and keep it in the best health. Carpet cleaning Tulsa we want to service your carpet cleaning for up to 10, 15, 20 years or longer sometimes. We have cleaned carpets on every type of scheduled that you can imagine. With modern carpets there’s no perfect schedule. Personally I think the perfect schedule is once you believe the carpets are dirty you need to get it taken care of. You don’t want to go past the point that you feel the carpets are dirty. I’ve got some customers that have the carpets cleaned once a year or two and the carpets never get that dirty. Some people are afraid to clean their carpets often, afraid they might damage them. I’ve I got quite a few customers that have it done once a month and we’ve done it that way for over 9 years and their carpets still look as good as when we first started cleaning them. As soon as long as you use to the proper ratio of suction to water then you are not ever hurting the carpet by clean it. You are actually extending its life because you’re removing any grit that gets it in the carpet that will wear the carpet down. Carpet cleaning Tulsa for so many years has given us the experience to be able to see the cause and effect of different types of cleaning schedules and cleaning patterns to carpets. Without a doubt making sure that you keep the debris out of the carpet is the number one way to extend the life of your carpet. Debris and even sugars or sticky stuff all of this gets in your carpet and it’s like rubbing your hands back and forth together. You can rub them back and forth together for a while and you’re not going to have really much of a problem. You probably go a couple of minutes without much effort, maybe a little hot or sweaty. But open up your hands cover each hand with salt and then try rubbing your hands together. You are going to get like 10-15 seconds in and quit because you’ve now turned it into sandpaper. Your carpet fiber is exactly the same way if you’ve got any debris in the carpet as you walk across it each foot step you make pushes those carpet fibers against each other. As they start collecting dirt and debris on each other is going to rub and is going to scar and scratch the other carpet fibers. This results in matting, this is when the carpet fibers slowly untwist or unwind and they mixed together and you get one big tuft of carpet instead of individual strands of fibers. So there is no specific set time to clean your carpets. But I always tell people whenever you feel like it’s dirty whether that be in a month, 6 months, a year. If it still looks good and you hit the 2-year mark it’s good to get the carpets cleaned just to do it for maintenance cycle. Even if you’re not in there very much you want to try to just keep the health of the carpet for the long term. This isn’t because you are a dirty person, it’s just the fine dust that you don’t really see, it’s not big brown spots, but it has slowly set on the carpet because everything collect dust overtime.
