Carpet Cleaner | Episode 544 | Complete Carpet
Speaker 1: (00:01)
Welcome to the carpet diem podcast. I’m your host, Nathan Sabrina semi. We are going to continue to series on the formation of complete carpet, which is really kind of taking a turn into just ideologies, the concepts behind it because I can give you the detailed step by step process and plan that we use and the way that we did it. But if you don’t know the why we did it that way, then you go out there and try it. I think a lot of people do this. That’s, I think a lot of people fail in business because they go out there and they try and they’ve seen a few books. They read a few things and they do the what’s without knowing the why’s. They know what to do. You should. I mean everybody knows what to do. As far as the business. I think the average person asked him, they’d be able to give you all the general Watts cause we’ve walked through businesses. Tulsa’s highest and most reviewed Carpet Cleaner.

We know how the businesses operate. We fundamentally know how to run a business. You may not have taken any formal training, but you need to fundamentally know how to run a business because you’ve been the recipient of those businesses. So you know that you would need to provide a service. You know, you’d need to have the appropriate tools. You know, you’d need to keep a schedule so you’d know when the things were done. You know, you need to keep your books. So you know, to be able to pay your people you need, Oh, you need to be able to have a pricing sheet that makes sense. You know, you’d need to price it in a way that you could be profitable. Because if you don’t, then your will eventually just run out of money. You know that you need to hire people. You know that you want the people to be people. Tulsa’s Carpet Cleaner since 1998.

You’d like to know that you want to have a general process in place. I mean, you can go through the whole list. Everybody could make a long, long list, probably hundreds or thousands of items deep of how they think business should run because they’ve worked at a business and they know how they’ve, they’ve worked at businesses that they didn’t like that they didn’t want it running that way. So carpet cleaning tells us we are blue carpet and we work really hard to find employees who want to work the way that we work. Uh, I’ve had one employee that we were training once during his shadow day and he said that, are you trying to get us, get me to quit? Are you trying to not want me to work with you? And I said, actually, yes, I want it to be as difficult now as possible for you. Tulsa’s highest and most reviewed Carpet Cleaner.

So that way if you decide that you do want to do this, that you do it, knowing what the worst will be and then the best will be easy for you. But a lot of times we only want to show someone the best and when the worst happens, then we get really freaked out and flipped out. And we were like, Oh, well I didn’t sign up for this and if as long as you know everything that you signed up for, I think that it’s not trying to drive someone off. I think it’s truth in advertising. Like, Hey, I want you to know exactly what we do here and that you’re knowing exactly what we do is still excited about being here and we’ll make great, you’re going to be a good fit and you see everything that we do here and you’re like, nah, that’s not for me. Cool. There’s a good fit. There’s a job out there that is for you. This just isn’t the one. That way if we do it in the type of the thoughts of how we do the process need to be the same and you need to be on board with doing it that way. Tulsa’s Carpet Cleaner since 1998.

And all of that comes from years of building up before we started complete carpet of saying, I’m going to make sure that I bring value to every customer, that if I was paid for, I would not do a better job. I’m going to do my best job every time. So this let’s go all the way back to the way that time machine jump in. But the dial all the way back to 1998 and 99 I would take it, the contract for the Tulsa housing authority. We now are called carpet cleaning now, sorry. Perfect care installation. We’re going to install your carpets and we’re gonna care for them as we install them. Um, and so we’ve had to throw a name together cause we need to be all our doctors together. Cause really I didn’t think that this was going to be a thing. I didn’t think that this was going to go on cause I was trying to build a computer company and I needed to fund it. Speaker 1: (03:37)
And so you gotta get through 98 and 99 I think, and all that money is still with the idea that I’m going to fund a computer company. And so in 2000 I start taking you to a company called care, uh, computer care. So I decided to just, I’d used carpet care. Installation goes, it’s all in carpenter. I’m going to care for computers off computer care. Took out a little ad in the yellow pages. I took all of the money to buy basic parts, but set up accounts. I could do more detailed stuff and then start to advertise him and so I was doing installation and I had a contractor do that so that that gave me that consistency of money in the background and I started doing computer stuff. Now in 2000 or 2001 you had the.net bubble burst. This changes and I think in a lot of life you can do your best, you plan for the best, but then you deal with the burst and sometimes things just change and the environment around it change. Tulsa’s Carpet Cleaner since 1998.

I think one of the great mentors that I had told me, you do not get to do what you want to do. You get to do what people want you to do. I think there’s two different ways it if you could really, really want to do something, but in, unless you can find a way to find the people that want that, then you’re going to need in each phase of your life to do what you can reach people that want you to do it. I would love to be an amazing singer, but nobody I’ve ever known wants to listen to me sing. So I am not a great, amazing singer. I want it to be a great computer guy. but at the time in 2001 and 2002 when we had the bubble burst, virtually every high level computer guy was unemployed all at once. And so you had all these major tech companies going under and all of their tech staff were now high level skilled guys now out on the street. Tulsa’s highest and most reviewed Carpet Cleaner.
Speaker 1: (05:23)
And so most of them couldn’t find another tech job because they were all firing. They’re all letting guys off. They’re all downsizing. So they had to instead either find a new job or start a small computer company. And so now everybody was starting a small computer company. All at once and now instead of having like three or four competitors, there’s 50 competitors in the market, and of course those 50 competitors are willing to do it for anything because they’re just trying to put food on the table. Whereas I’m trying to build a business that’s going to be profitable. And so I realized quickly my carpet business was actually expanding and growing without me even really trying too hard in it because I was really putting my focus in the computer side and I hadn’t really noticed that the carpet side had just continued to slowly wallet even skill of word of mouth. I was connecting with people who were connected with people who were, who were referring me to people who all needed my services. A referral is a great source of connection because you have that warm invite, especially back in the nineties early two thousands you had that warm invite saying, Hey, Hey, look, here’s my guy and my guy. He’s good, he’s good. And I tell you he’s good. So you’re going to use it, right? Oh yes, absolutely. John, I’m going to use it. I told you if I, you said he’s good, that’s the only guy I’m going to call. I’m not going to call anyone else because you said he’s the guy. He’s the guy. And I think that when you have those types of referrals, you get that type of a connection because the first customer sees the work that you did and they pass that information on the next one. The next one doesn’t even need to see it. They just give you the keys to the house, but they know your reputation proceeds you and you’re going to do a great job based on your reputation. Uh, Warren buffet says famously that it takes 20 years to build up a reputation, but only five minutes to destroy it. So make sure that you guard whatever you want to be. You’ve got it with all, all the energy you’ve got. Cause it’s not about someone else telling you who you are, it’s about you deciding who you want to be. And then everybody else will see that what you practice, how you practice in secret. If you are, if you just yell at yourself or you yell at the wall in your private room, when you get frustrated, eventually your kids are gonna frustrate you. You’re going to yell at them. Tulsa’s Carpet Cleaner since 1998.
Speaker 1: (07:30)
If when you get upset, you throw a wrench or you punch, you knock something off the table or you punch a wall, well then eventually somebody is upset you and you’re going to throw something at them or you’re going to punch them or you’re going to hit something right next to them and we will eventually didn’t hear like did you get really embarrassed but somebody saw you do what you’ve been practicing for a long time and you realize it’s not the character you wanted but now you don’t know how to break the habit. So many times we’ve established habits that we don’t want to live because we were doing things we don’t want everyone else to see in our private life. I think the worst thing ever to happen to humanity was to say that it’s okay what you do in private it is not okay. Tulsa’s highest and most reviewed Carpet Cleaner.
Speaker 1: (08:06)
What’d you do at private? What you do in private is practice for what you’re going to do in public. So what you do in private is super duper important. It’s, it’s your, it’s your training ground, it’s your practice field. It’s the place where you could perfect the best version of you so that when you’re in front of somebody, you’re not trying to figure out what to do. You’ve already practiced it so long when you’re worked in front of somebody, you’d be ready. Sort of like when you want to sing a song, you’ve got to get that song down absolutely perfectly. All the motions when nobody’s watching so that when you get on that stage and everyone is watching it, your nerves kick in and your butterflies in your stomach and you got this anxious, sweaty anticipation that you fall back on your training. You fall back on your training because at the moment your brain just checks out and says, Ooh, too much stress. Tulsa’s Carpet Cleaner since 1998.
Speaker 1: (08:47)
I don’t know what to do here. And your training kicks in, says, don’t worry, I got this covered. I got this covered. I know what to do. I w I got you. You won’t be stuck here yet. I’m going to leave you out on the ledge. Remember all that your practice, all that training you did when nobody was looking at all these practice sessions and you figured out exactly what needed to be done. I’m going to follow that practice and don’t worry. You’re going to get it taken care of. The same way that when you’re talking to the phone and you’re driving and then you look up and you look around, you’re like, Whoa, Hey, wait a second. How did I get here? You don’t remember the path you took because your body took over and said, you know all that practicing you’ve been doing driving this this particular route. Speaker 1: (09:18)
I know exactly how to get you back home. I know actually how to get back to home. I know how to get you the thing that you want to do. Go ahead. Have that conversation. Think about something else. Don’t worry. I got this driving thing covered. We don’t want to think that we’re not driving, but the reality is a lot of times we’re not driving. Our body is following all the habits and the patterns that we’ve done to get us to that point. Carpet cleaning Tulsa since 1998 we are complete carpus. Give us a call today at (918) 494-7093.
