Welcome to carpet DM podcast. I am your host, Nathan Sabrina’s. And today we’re going to continue our podcast series on rugs. What can we do to help to extend the life of our Carpet Cleaner? And this particular one we talked about before about rugs, the two uses. You’ll be able to have a rug at the front door or the back door, your entry rugs, the rugs that are coming into the home. Typically say try not to have these be decorative, otherwise, people won’t step on them. The next we will talk about, you’re talking about the rugs that are on the inside of your home. These will be no longer needed. All-weather rugs, these are more pieces of carpet and they are kind of the welcome or thank you. Or here we come into our home. You got the rugs on the outside of the house and then you have the rug that go through the house and the rug that go through the house are there to try to offset the wear pattern in the home carpet is throughout your home. At any time you walk on the carpet you will wear the Carpet Cleaner. And this is just normal physics. Normal friction is going to call it the fibers to be broken down or wear out over time. And so as you are working and making a big push towards getting that carpet to be in a better situation or a better standard, uh, place, you will have a large portion of things that end up getting worn faster than others because we are creatures of habit.
So we do not just randomly walk all over the place. We are real specific and that we walk from one point to the other point from point a to point B. Uh, as far as your pets go, when they go into an area, they will just kind of wander all around cause they go over and they look at that wall and they look at the curtain and they go over to the chair and then they kind of rub against something at the coffee table and they go over. Whereas we are only, we are creatures of habit. We also are creatures that go because we’re doing something. If not, then we just sit still and so we will get off the couch because I’ve thought about going to let’s say the restroom and so I have thought through where’s the restroom, what’s the easiest and smoothest way to get there.
And so I will get out and start walking to the restroom directly. I don’t take this teleological approach. I don’t walk all over. I go directly from here to the restroom and try to make a direct beeline path between those two spaces. So what we’ll do is we’ll put rugs down in certain areas that get the most bulk of our walking traffic.
Uh, some of the areas that we see on a common place will be in front of the coach. You’ll get the carpet that is just getting worn out, they’re right in front of the couch or you’ll get down a hallway. You also get, we typically will use a hard surface mat for running a desk and that’ll take the wheels from that desk chair that have created the extra friction or grind against the, uh, carpet. So then you’ve got down the desk chair. You might have around a bed, um, say coming out from under a bed, you may have one under the dining room table so that it can capture food and dirt and all these different ones are there to try to capture in places of high traffic area so that the carpet underneath it does not wear out as fast as the carpet around it does because those areas get walked on.
Where about two feet wide is our normal walk path. And so all the problems that we’ll have there can just get absorbed into the Carpet Cleaner and the carpet around it. We’ll end up wearing it about the same pace. So when you do move the rug, the Carpet Cleaner will look a normal underneath the rug, whereas it is now spaced out or problematic. Um, from where it was under, the rug will now match the other areas since they did not get the same amount of walking that that area did. And so this in turn helps to try to break down or move all that wear pattern and transfer it onto another source. Again. Um, one of the parts that most people ask about is where should I put my rug? How often, what should I do? And the part that gets missed is that rug is there to absorb the where. The question is how will the rug itself handle the ware? And that’s something that most people don’t think about. It’s not something you should think about a really regular basis, but at least once a year I would take that rug and turn it probably every six months or a year, pick that rug, turn it 180 degrees so that the path traffic path that it is capturing can get spread out. And so that both sides of that both ends are both edges of that rug will get the same amount of wear. Otherwise you will wear that rug out faster. The hope is your Rick traffic path going through it.
And now when you go to the other side, you’re like, Hey, this has now been used up. The wear pattern in this rug in a specific way, but the plus side is that however, much that rug is, you now can, once it gets really worn out, you can toss the rug or when you leave and you move to somewhere else, the carpet underneath, once you moved, the rug will look almost brand new because it has had the bulk of the wear been transferred into the rug and not into the carpet below.
